I LOVE doing this annual ritual of reflecting on the reads of the past year. Reading has always been an important part of my life and I learn so much through the pages of other's important ideas and stories.

For the past few years, I've set a one book per month goal. Most times I easily hit this target, but not in 2024. I had a lot going on with a divorce, a big move, a big strategic plan project, and such, so I'm giving myself some grace this time around with my shorter than normal list. There were some true gems and a few that I couldn't even stomach to finish, so I let them go.
SJ's 2024 reads:
A Very Punchable Face, Colin Jost 9/10 Made me actually LOL, several times. LOVED it. Even when he talks about shitting his pants.
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Caitlin Doughty 8.5/10 Fascinating read about the business of death and how it's evolved over the past century, with in-depth views around cremation. I believe Americans are WILD when it comes to beliefs around dying and death and I couldn't put this book down.
The Gap and the Gain-Dan Sullivan, Dr. Benjamin Hardy
?/10 I honestly don't remember a thing about this one. Did I really read it? Ummmm, yes? LOL. I generally really like Dan Sullivan, but I'm shocked that I can't even recall a single detail about this one.
The Body Keeps The Score, Bessel va der Kolk 9/10 This one was long and very difficult for me to get through AND it was simply fascinating. A good read following last year's What Happened to You?
Comfort Crisis, Michael Easter
9/10
FLEW through this one. Somber. Important. Inspiring. Terrifying.
Educated, Tara Westover
8/10 My hometown wasn't far from where this story unfolds and I was riveted from the moment this real-life mormon story started.
The Creative Act: A Way of Being, Rick Rubin
9.5/10 One of the best reads of the year. Recommended by a client. I'd always been a fan of the creative musical work Rubin had done, and now I'm a fan of him as a person and creator. Follow Rubin on IG and you won't be disappointed.
"The universe is constantly making art. Art is listening for what wants to be expressed through you." Rick Rubin
Thank you for Arguing (not finished...tried two times and even the references to the Simpsons couldn't keep me hooked)
Wish you Well (not finished...and this one is WAY outside of the normal type of book I read).
Psycho-Cybernetics (not finished...couldn't even get into it...at. all).
Have you read any of these books?
What is on your list for 2025?
I'd love to hear! I'm already done with Supercommunicators and am on to The Serviceberry.
Cheers to hitting reading targets in 2025!
